STOP MEAT IMPORT & BUILD SELF-RELIANT BANGLADESH

Press Briefing : 7th September 2019, Saturday ; 01: 00 pm ; along with mohammadpur, beribad area, at Nobodoy Convention Center, leaders of Bangladesh Dairy Farmer’s Association held a press conference with strong objections to the Ministry of Commerce’s positive decision to import meat from abroad. The conference was attending by about 900 farmers from different districts of the country, where the president Mr. Imran Hossain said that the fact that clothing will go abroad will allow to bring meat on the contrary is a suicidal decision for our country because by exporting ready made garments, large part of foreign exchange earnings is paid to the import of raw materials. In the garment paper industry, the figure of money in Bangladesh Bank’s Export Accounts Department looks great, however most of the foreign currency is to be returned to the import of raw materials. In addition, gains of the country, only the wages of the workers and government subsidy of the garment owners. On the other hand , in the livestock sector of the country, from the production to the devotees, all that happens in the cycle of economy from the lives, livelihoods and benefits of the economy of the billions of people directly involved in various industries and their associated business is way too bigger. It is like a self sufficient industry being destroyed and moving on to another is like a state of self-harm. In the year 2009-2010, the meat production per head was 11.6 gm. In the year 2018-2019, the meat production per head increased to 75.14 gm which is more than demand. For the last 3 year’s Eid Ul Azha, and the addition of the contemporary market clearly indicates that we produce meat that is self sufficient. Although our meat price is little more than an international meat price but if we can confirm the government’s view and the following activities, we will be able to produce meat for 350 taka per kg.
